The CWU-RV Board has selected three of the four National Quadrennial Priorities to guide our kingdom-building work from 2025-2028.
Church Women United advocates for peace and justice throughout the world. Our efforts start with valuing one another's humanity right here in our own community. The Love Thy Neighbors Action Team will have responsibility for planning the annual Love Thy Neighbor Walk, coordinating our involvement with Roanoke Justice Ministries, and alerting the membership to other peace-related initiatives (such as the International Peace Festival) in the Roanoke Valley.
Enhancing students' academic readiness in our schools and afterschool programs is critical. The Ready, Set, Read! Action Team will coordinate our continuing relationship with Kids Soar and explore ways for us to be involved with other school-based or after-school programs, particularly those related to literacy.
Housing is a basic human right. Just as every person needs food, water, and sleep, all people need safe, affordable, accessible places to live. The Advocacy for Affordable and Safe Housing Action Team will spearhead our ongoing advocacy efforts with local policymakers and members of the General Assembly and report to the membership on the work of the Blue Ridge Interagency Council on Homelessness. The Community Engagement and Support Action Team will coordinate our direct-service efforts as we continue to provide assistance to organizations like the Rescue Mission, Christian Soldiers Food Pantry, and Roanoke's Housing Assistance (HAT) Team which help those who are unhoused or at-risk of homelessness.
